A peek inside a simple website design

I’m really excited today to announce the re-development of our main company website Web Circle. Here is a screenshot of the final site which you can click on to be taken to the site.

WordPress menus

Once you’ve mastered pages, you’ll want to know how to manage the menus in your site. WordPress menus are fairly straight forward particularly with the new menu features introduced in WordPress 3.

There are 2 ways of working with menus in WordPress. In this video I run through both options.

If you’re not a youtube lover  right click and choose Save As for the MP4 version.

I would suggest where possible when setting up WordPress menus, to use the newer method which is the inbuilt menu manager.

The 10 best WordPress plugins for small businesses

We have been using WordPress for quite a few years for our small business websites. In this post I’ll run through our 10 best WordPress plugins for small businesses (well it’s slightly more than 10 but there are 10 main plugins or plugin groups – some of them with a few options).

These are the plugins we always install.

Contact form 7 – This is what we use for our contact forms, it’s easy to use and you can easily just add the default form to a page and set up a contact page instantly. I haven’t spent a lot of time testing other form extensions but this one seems to do the job nicely. It also speaks to Akismet (see below) to reduce spam.
