Getting started with social media for SEO

If you have read any of my ebooks, particularly my small business search engine domination ebook you will know I am a big advocate of social media for SEO benefits.

The main reason is simple. The Google algorithm is based to a large extent on sites linking to other sites. But other than SEO companies who really links to other sites anymore? Most people will use social media to ‘share’ as opposed to actively linking to another site from their highly authoritative homepage.

The hard data on how social media impacts on SEO is pretty limited. However it’s my belief that in the future things like social media authority and authorship (how important Google thinks you are as an author) will have a huge influence on your position in Google. At the end of the day Google wants to deliver the best content and the best content is written by people with authority and is shared a lot.

Twitter hacks for lazy people

Twitter is a great too for small businesses but it’s also a time thief!

You can literally spend hours on Twitter just reading through posts and hearing about what people are having for lunch. If you put the time in you will be better off no doubt but what if you are lazy like me and you don’t want to put the time in? Here are some of the things I do to automate the Twitter experience a bit.

Note I’m not a huge fan of automating social media but at the same time there are some things that work well for me. They may annoy some people, they may not suit you, but they work for me.

If your strategy on Twitter is to build a following or spread your message  to as many people as possible then you need more followers. Here is the easiest way you can get more followers on Twitter without doing much at all.

Step 1 – Buy Tweet Adder (affiliate link)

Step 2 – Choose an influential person / business / product / association etc from your industry and use Tweet Adder to add all of their followers to your ‘to follow’ list.
