Long tail keywords

Hi guys, Gab here following up my post from last week on keyword research with a post on long tail keywords.

So once you get used to do some keyword research, the next target is to find “long tail keywords”. When you think about your business you might think about a keyword to target being your main product or service. For example we target the word ‘Website Design‘ and ‘Website Development‘. We get a lot of traffic for these terms but they are very difficult to compete for. For example they might search for ‘web site design Brisbane’, or ‘web development Melbourne’, or ‘find a WordPress website designer in Canberra’. You only get a couple of searches for these terms but there are thousands of different combinations of things people might search for. These are known as long tail keywords (if you are super keen on the idea check out Chris Anderson’s site which discusses the original article he wrote back in 2004 about it for Wired Magazine). Similarly there is no point optimising for a broad keyword that isn’t competitive if people aren’t searching for it. It is a balancing act.

Below are a few tips to help you to select the right keywords that will generate targeted customers to your website.
