Quite often when clients from existing small businesses come to us for a website a lot of the reason behind it is they want something that looks professional and does a good job at reflecting their business.
For recent client Chic Sister this was certainly the case. Their old website wasn’t exactly reflecting the ‘Chic’ image they were trying to portray.
In the last 2 months we have built 2 ecommerce websites using the Magento Commerce platform. Magento is certainly generating some interest around the place at the moment. It’s a pretty sophisticated platform considering it’s a relatively new, open source and freely available system. Today we launched our second Magento site this month with the go-live of soleintegrity.com.au. The site is built on the Magento Commerce platform and has a lot of extra advanced features including a homepage slider, a full online product catalogue with multiple-attribute products, colour swatch extension where customers can click the image of the shoe colour they like to show a bigger image as well as select this option automatically in preparation for purchase (try it here), search engine friendly URLs, a custom accordion products menu for easy product navigation as well as integration with PayPal and eWay.
I was speaking today with Maurice from Kintek a Brisbane based web design company and he pointed me to a recent post he made on their blog. After being unhappy with the experience of purchasing a Kindle on Amazon.com, Maurice took it upon himself to come up with a new design for Amazon but not only that, detail in full the decisions made and why certain things were changed.
The post can be found here and the new design can be found here (smaller version shown below). I encourage anyone who is interested in usability particularly for online shopping sites to grab a coffee (or perhaps 2) and have a read.
