This is a really interesting comparison of the two opposite viewpoints. Maybe which one is needed depends on the product. If the product is designed to fill an untapped niche, maybe the iterative process is more important. The “excellence” m.o. could apply to new products designed to compete in a pre-existing market. Just my thoughts.

i think maybe because you`re a perfectionist you try too hard sometimes, if you can put out good quality content time and time again, i think you`re 3/4 of the way there (i can relate to your perfectionism…im one too)

For sure!

That’s why I like the feature in SEOmoz rank tracking tool which lets you know if any keyword on your list is showing a places or video result in the serps even if it’s not showing “your” result. It just lets you know that it might be worth optimizing that keyword for local or throwing a video up (or both).

For example the key phrase “driving lesson” was not showing places results (I just checked and it is now) but it used to have a thumbnail from youtube.

Which gives you the idea that if you too can put a video on youtube titled driving lesson
your video will show next to the other one (which may or may not be one of your
competitors).

So I guess what I’m saying is that anything that can help us keep track of/find keywords
we care about and help us work out how we should be optimising them is a bonus!!

Because looking at the actual results for hundreds of keywords takes a lot of time.
